This policy explains what personal data we collect on cemi.ai, why, who processes it for us, how long we keep it, and your rights. It applies to everyone who visits the site, talks to its assistants, fills in one of its forms or writes to us.

2. What we collect, why, and on what basis
| When | What | Why | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| You open most pages of the site | When the site’s assistant loads, our authentication service (Firebase) creates an anonymous account: a random identifier with no name or contact details, also kept in your browser. Google’s reCAPTCHA (through Firebase App Check) checks that the request comes from a real browser; to do so, Google collects information about your device and browser | To protect the assistant and the forms from abuse and to apply daily usage limits | Our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and available |
| You talk to an assistant or ask the help desk | Your messages, the address and title of the page you are on, and passages from the site’s own pages are sent to Gemini, Google’s AI model, which writes the answer. We do not store the conversation: it lives in your browser tab and disappears when you close it. We store a daily counter of how many questions you asked (anonymous identifier, assistant type, date, number) | To answer your questions and keep usage within daily limits | Our legitimate interest in offering the assistants, and steps you ask us to take |
| You send a contact form (contact page, dialogue contributions, FinLab contact) | What you write in the form: name, e-mail, the subject or interest you choose, your organisation where asked, and your message. With it we record the page and language of the form, your browser’s technical description (user agent), your anonymous identifier and the time | To read your message, answer it and route it to the right person. A copy is e-mailed to our team | Our legitimate interest in answering, or steps you ask us to take before a contract |
| You apply to the FinLab Fellows programme | What you enter in the application: name, e-mail, phone, country, city, affiliation, role, track, project title and abstract, areas of interest, availability, duration, links, how you heard about us and your consent, with the page, language, user agent, anonymous identifier and time | To evaluate your application and contact you about it | Your consent, given in the form, and steps you ask us to take |
| You browse the site | Pages visited, approximate location, device and browser, through Google Analytics. Analytics is on by default; you can switch it off at any time through «Cookie settings» at the bottom of any page | To understand how the site is used and improve it | Our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used, to which you can object at any time by switching analytics off |
| Pages load fonts, videos or charts | Your IP address and browser details reach the services that deliver them, as with any website: Google Fonts, Google Cloud Storage (our videos and images), YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode (one page), and the jsDelivr and Tailwind content networks (a few pages) | To display the page | Our legitimate interest in showing the site as designed |
| Always | Your anonymous identifier, daily usage counters and, on some pages, your language, theme or checklist progress, kept in your own browser (local storage) | To make the site work as you use it | Necessary for the site to work as you asked |
| You write to us by e-mail | Your message and contact details | To answer you | Our legitimate interest in answering, or steps before a contract |
The site has no user registration and takes no payments.
We do not sell or share your personal data for advertising, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not make decisions about you by automated means alone. The assistants are AI: they answer questions about CEMI and decide nothing about you.
3. Who processes it for us
We use these providers, under contracts that oblige them to protect your data and use it only for us:
- Google (Firebase, Google Cloud): hosting, authentication, database, functions and file storage that run the site; reCAPTCHA (App Check); Google Analytics (until you switch it off); Gemini through Firebase AI Logic, the AI model behind the assistants, on Google’s paid service terms, under which Google does not use your messages to train its models; Google Fonts and YouTube.
- Resend: delivery of the e-mail that sends each contact-form message to our team.
Within CEMI, only authorised team members can read form messages and applications.
We disclose data to authorities only when the law requires it.
4. International transfers
Our providers process data in the United States and other countries, and our two companies are in the United States and the Dominican Republic. We transfer your data there to provide the site and answer you. Google and Resend state that they participate in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; where it does not apply, we rely on standard contractual clauses or on the transfer being necessary for what you ask us to do.
5. How long we keep it
- Contact-form messages and e-mails you send us: 3 years, unless they become part of a contract, which we then keep as long as the contract and the law require.
- FinLab Fellows applications: 2 years after the decision on the application.
- Daily usage counters: deleted automatically 30 days after the day they count.
- Anonymous accounts: they hold only a random identifier and the dates it was created and last used. We keep them while the site may need them to apply its daily limits; they are not linked to your name or contact details. You can remove the identifier from your browser at any time by clearing this site’s data.
- Assistant conversations: not kept by us (they live in your browser tab only).
- Analytics: at most 14 months, under our Google Analytics retention setting.
6. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- access the data we hold about you and know how it is used;
- correct it if it is wrong or incomplete;
- delete it, or object to a use of it;
- switch off analytics at any time, through «Cookie settings» at the bottom of any page, and withdraw any consent you have given us, such as the one in a Fellows application;
- and, if you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, restrict its use and receive it in a portable format.
Write to privacy@cemi.ai from the e-mail you used, and tell us what you need. We answer requests to access your data within 5 business days, and requests to correct or delete it within 10 business days. We may ask you to confirm your identity. If you used the site without writing to us, the only link between you and your data is the anonymous identifier in your browser; tell us that identifier, or clear this site’s data in your browser.
If you are not satisfied: in the Dominican Republic you may bring a habeas data action before the courts (Constitution, Art. 70; Ley 172-13). In the European Union or the United Kingdom you may complain to your data-protection authority. In the United States you may contact your state attorney general.
7. Cookies and similar technologies
- Necessary: your anonymous identifier, daily usage counters and display choices, kept in your browser’s local storage, and the reCAPTCHA check that protects the assistant and the forms. They make the site work and need no consent.
- Analytics (Google Analytics): set by default, so we can understand how the site is used. You can switch them off at any time through «Cookie settings» at the bottom of any page; we then stop collecting analytics from your browser.
- Advertising: none. Advertising storage is always switched off.
- Do Not Track: we do not track you across other sites. Because there is no common standard for «Do Not Track» signals, the site does not respond to them; your cookie choice controls analytics.
8. Security
We protect your data with access controls (only authorised team members can read form messages and applications, and visitors cannot read or change what others send), encrypted connections, abuse protection on the assistant and the forms, and providers with recognised security practices. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your data, we will tell you as the law requires.
9. Children
cemi.ai is a site for organisations and professionals and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we learn that we have, we delete it.
10. Changes
When this policy changes, we update the version and date at the top and, for significant changes, announce it on the site. The version in force when we collected your data tells you how we used it until the change.
11. Language
This policy is published in English, Spanish and French. For users in the Dominican Republic the Spanish version prevails; in every other case, the English version prevails.
